About Us
Your Society
Yorkshire Building Society is one of the largest building societies in the UK. We have 1.9 million members and assets of £20.5 billion.
We're a mutual organisation. This means we're owned by, and run for, the benefit of our members and not outside shareholders.
The Yorkshire was the first building society to commit itself to remaining a mutual at a time when some of our rivals decided to become banks. In this and many other ways, we have led the way in demonstrating that membership of a mutual building society brings a whole range of important benefits to investors and borrowers alike.
Yorkshire Building Society - with you one hundred percent
Wherever you live the Yorkshire Building Society is with you one hundred percent. As one of Britain's largest and most successful building societies, the Yorkshire has 134 branches backed up by a network of agencies spanning the country.
As you'd expect, our Head Office is in Yorkshire. On the southern outskirts of Bradford, Yorkshire House is part of a purpose-built £32 million development and home to over 800 staff.
Our assets are £20.5 billion and we are the third largest building society in Britain. For many years, we have also been one of the most cost-effective in the industry.
Our purpose
Our purpose is to "maximise long term benefits for a growing membership".
We aim to attract and keep members who want long term value by continually improving the benefits we offer. We will achieve this by providing excellent products and services, the opportunity for members to talk to us through any channel they choose and offering a high level of security.
Our strategies include making sure we:
- Understand and meet the needs of our customers
- Improve by investing in people, technology and processes
- Add value by providing a wider range of products and services to members and other financial institutions
- Keep our mutual status
Our vision is to be "famous for being recommended".
Highlights of recent performance:
- 9/10 members in a survey said they would recommend us to their friends and family and that they regard our service as good or excellent.
- In 2006 mortgage assets grew by 10.4%, helped by gross mortgage lending of £4 billion.
