About the Area

William Bradford Community College is located in Earl Shilton – a small town in rural Leicestershire. Earl Shilton is situated approx 5 miles from Hinckley and 10 miles from Leicester and has recently benefited from the creation of the A47 bypass, which provides direct access to the town. The area is within easy reach of Leicester, Coventry, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire with convenient access to the M69, M1, M42 and M6 motorways in addition to the A47 & A5.

Earl Shilton was historically a busy industrial village well known for shoe, hosiery & knitwear factories. Many of these traditional businesses still exist in the local area and the town is characterised by a close-knit community atmosphere & a history of innovation and excellence in design and technology.

West Leicestershire is characterised by vibrant market towns, rolling countryside and pretty villages. The area is probably most well known for its association with the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 and the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre offers guided walks & battle re-enactments throughout the year. Twycross Zoo is another well known local attraction and a leading wildlife centre within the UK. The Zoo is famous for its’ collection of Primates and is very popular with residents and visitors alike.
