About the College
William Bradford Community College is one of the smallest upper schools in Leicestershire catering for approx 700 students aged between 14 and 19 years. We are a Specialist Technology College with a specific focus on Design Technology, Mathematics and Science. We aspire to provide each student with an educational opportunity where a blend of traditional academic achievements and 21st century technological skills make our students extremely employable. We are a truly inclusive school. At the heart of our learning community is a relentless focus on developing excellent teaching and learning and a genuine belief that learning at GCSE level is within the grasp of most pupils.
Our Strengths
The real strength of William Bradford Community College is our specialist, collegiate and committed staff. Staff promote a ‘can do’ culture across the school and encourage good learning habits for all our students. Achievement & success at all levels are recognised and celebrated and there are many examples of rapid progression amongst our staff. Class sizes tend to be smaller than average and this allows us to know our students personally.
Our Curriculum
We offer a broad and flexible curriculum for our students underpinned by a strong belief that excellence in vocational education enhances opportunities for all students. We offer a range of courses at GCSE, A level, BTEC & GNVQ including qualifications in Forensic Science and Hair & Beauty therapy. We currently offer a Diploma in Hair & Beauty and are will be introducing a Diploma in Hospitality. We are a well resourced school with a number of highly specialised teaching areas including a performing arts studio & rehearsal rooms, a professional standard hair & beauty salon on site and plans underway to build an industrial kitchen. Links with a partner school in the Sichuan Province of China afford various opportunities for staff to get involved with exchange programs and other linked projects.
Specialist Technology Status
Specialist Technology status permeates our learning community and staff benefit from the opportunities afforded by working in a technologically rich environment. Interactive whiteboards feature in most classrooms and we have recently benefited from massive investment in IT across the school. Students and teachers are well supported by an experienced team of technicians and learning support staff.
Innovation
Innovation and creativity are encouraged at all levels and we welcome staff with a passion for delivering interesting and challenging lessons. We have strong links with a number of local and national businesses including National Grid and BP and as part of our technology focus have installed a wind turbine on site. Solar panels are also being introduced across the school in support of our commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of the school.
