Guaranteed Interview Scheme
The VOA is committed to the employment and development of disabled people, and runs a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for disabled candidates. The ‘Positive About Disabled People’ two-ticks symbol awarded by the Employment Service is used on all recruitment materials. As a symbol user, any disabled person whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post is guaranteed an interview. For ‘minimum criteria’ the person must provide evidence for meeting the level of competence required for each competency, as well as meeting any of the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential.
For a candidate to be eligible for the Guaranteed Interview Scheme they must have a disability or long-term health condition expected to last for at least 12 months and which puts them at a significant disadvantage in either obtaining or keeping jobs.
The Guaranteed Interview Scheme is a positive action measure intended to remove some of the barriers for disabled people who hope to join the VOA. However, once the interview has taken place it is still the best person for the job who will be offered the job – and disabled interviewees compete on an even playing field with their non-disabled counterparts.
Selectors and assessors do not have access to the disability information provided.
