Case Study

What's it really like to work for the AA? Here's what John has to say.

John started working for the AA approximately 1 year ago, he started in an Pupil Sales Advisor role and has now transferred into customer services.

What was your background before you joined the AA?

Prior to working for AA Driving School I came from a contact centre background, I had approximately 2 and half years customer services experience.

What attracted you to working for the AA?

I had never previously worked in, or really considered an inbound sales role, but felt my customer service and communication skills could be suitably adapted, and that sales would offer more creativity. The AA are a well known company and I felt the brand was something I had belief and confidence in and could offer suitable packages to customers.

How were your expectations met after you joined the AA

I have felt throughout my career with the AA that my pre-conceptions, ideas of what would or has happened have always been met. During my interview I was given a tour of the office and introduced to other team members, the environment seemed very focused but friendly with a strong team orientation.

The name and marketing activity undertaken by AA strongly supports the sales, and customers have their own pre-conception, expectation of a service level which we all work towards maintaining.

The induction and training was structured and interactive. Right from the first day we integrated with team members in both sales and other areas of the business, this helped us with building relationships in the office, and helped me understand other departments and functions, something which is still very useful everyday. At induction we received our development folder which we all work with, this outlines opportunities and a structured plan of achieving each progression within the role and office. It is structured but simple – what am I doing and why.

What is it like to work for the AA?

At the AA there is a sense of the wider team, people working with each other, we are part of a large organisation with its support structures but within AA Driving School everyone knows each other, and works well to support the service. It is an interesting place to work.

What are you hopes for future development

I started working within a sales team and moved over into customer services after 9 months. I took this opportunity after discussing my plans within a one to one meeting with my manager and was pleased to take the opportunity offered. I am hoping to undertake a secondment into the complaints team, before long term looking into management opportunities.

Why do I work for the AA Driving School?

I like the people, my colleagues, and the customers. It's a great place to work!
