About Provider Services

The past year has seen continuous change within the NHS.  Government reforms have seen Primary Care Trusts separating their commissioning and provider functions for healthcare services.  Provider Services has been functioning at ‘arms length’ from 1 April 2008.

We have successfully brought together staff from three previous Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) into one.  There will continue to be changes throughout the coming year.  Provider Services covers the following localities: Brentwood, Billericay, Wickford, Basildon and Thurrock. Our services are commissioned by the commissioning arm of South West Essex PCT.

Currently approximately 1,300 employees work for Provider Services and we anticipate spending in the region of £55-60 million in the delivery of our services.  We deliver comprehensive in-patient support to three community hospitals in South West Essex including the recently opened state of the art community hospital in Brentwood.

Provider Services delivers a broad range of services; examples include community nursing, physiotherapy, smoking cessation, obesity prevention, school nursing, health visiting, family planning, speech and language therapy.  We are changing the face of healthcare in South west Essex.

There are three directorates within Provider Services:

  • Children and Young People
  • Adults and Older People
  • Health Improvement

Our business plan for 2008/09 sets the broad objectives that we have set ourselves for the coming year.
Although challenging, we have every confidence that we will build upon our achievements of last year and work towards gaining a reputation for excellence both as an employer and in the delivery of healthcare services in the community.

Our core purpose “Caring for People, Caring for you.”
