Welcome to Staffordshire County Council

Staffordshire County Council's aim is to make Staffordshire an even better place to live, work, visit and invest and is responsible for all the major public services within the county.

The authority is the biggest employer in Staffordshire with more than 30,000 staff. These range from teachers and engineers to scientists and social workers who provide Staffordshire's population of around 800,000 people with vital services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

These services include the local education service, with over 400 schools, libraries, social services, fostering and adoption, trading standards, highways, planning, waste disposal and many many more.

The Council consults widely with its stakeholders to produce a 'Strategic Plan' which plans its action for the years ahead.

Politically there are 62 County Councillors who are elected every four years. They work closely with the council's officers to drive the overall strategy of the authority. It is delivered by employees working in seven Directorates. In addition, there are four support units - Chief Executive's Office, Finance, Law & Governance and Staffordshire ICT.

They are supported by the Chief Executive's Office. Ron Hilton is the Chief Executive in overall charge of the County Council and works with the elected members and the leader John Taylor to ensure it runs properly for the benefit of Staffordshire's council tax payers.

As well as working with members the council also works in partnership with organisations such as district and parish councils, police, fire and health authorities to help improve the prosperity, health, safety and environment of the whole county.
