About Us

The County Council has an annual operating budget of approximately £1billion with around £400 million spent on goods, works and services. In addition we procure major capital projects including a new corporate head office building and a 300ktpa Energy from Waste plant. We also co-ordinate government funded expenditure including £850 million on the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ programme.

SCC has already raised the bar once for Procurement expertise and is now delivering a further step change to become best in class. In a period of rapid and progressive change you will be part of a team building a high quality reputation with customers. Working with multi-million pound budgets you will bring a creative and innovative approach to delivering value and will play a leading role in influencing our transformation.

Our performance has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the Society of Procurement Officers (SOPO) and the National Audit Office.

This is where you come in.

In order to sustain, consolidate and build upon the diverse, dynamic and challenging work of the team, the Authority needs to expand capacity and add to the skill set of current personnel which in turn will enable us to continue to deliver against ever increasing and demanding customer requirements.

Our current team is drawn from both the Public and the Private sector so where you’re from is not a barrier – it’s where you can take us that’s really important.

We will be looking to you to take a creative, innovative approach to driving value and delivering savings. These roles are about “Do Better” not just “Buy Better” so there is a real opportunity to influence the business processes of the Council to drive value; unless your perception of Procurement in local government is exciting, high achieving, high profile, and at the forefront of change, then you’re in for a surprise…

As a Council, our vision is to make Staffordshire “a great place to live work visit and invest”, ‘Procurement’ has a key role in supporting this vision, in the value we contribute from early engagement in key strategic procurements, cash savings, better quality goods and services, sustainable procurement, and improved business processes. We are also ensuring that we speak to the business community and the voluntary sector with a common voice making us a more attractive customer and taking a key role in supporting our local provider base and sustainable communities.

We are already considered to be a leading council by our peers in the West Midlands and we aspire to grow our profile and reputation both regionally and nationally.

This is a career enhancing opportunity as well as a challenging one and if you have the drive and passion for procurement that we’re looking for you’ll fit in well here.
