Where is Salford?

Salford is about 200 miles north west of London.  With excellent road and public transport links to all parts of the UK, the city is well placed as a visitor and commercial centre.  Manchester International Airport, gateway to over 200 international destinations, is just a few miles away too.

What makes Salford special?

Salford’s closeness to Manchester city centre puts it right on the doorstep of big-city culture, diversity and excitement.  With its lively cosmopolitan lifestyle and vibrant city centre, Manchester has a truly European feel.  Add to this the tourist attractions, galleries, museums, superb shopping opportunities and striking Victorian architecture and you get a city that has something for everyone.

The University of Salford is one of four in Greater Manchester, and there are over 70,000 students living in the city, making it the biggest student population in Europe.  They’re attracted by a city that lives and breathes culture – Manchester is buzzing with shops, cafes and culture.

It is no surprise that it is heralded as the capital of the North. Art Galleries, theatres and venues offering live music events contribute to a city rich in diverse culture.  For outdoor adventure, the Peak District and Lake District are both within a short drive, and, closer to home, the city’s sporting and cultural base has been strengthened as a result of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.  For more information about the city of Manchester, click here

A series of regeneration programmes are changing Salford city's landscape.  The University of Salford is actively involved in regenerating and enhancing the local area. As a partner in the Chapel Street Regeneration project we've worked with local businesses and public bodies to develop a vision for the area. That means improved housing, more leisure and recreational facilities, better access to the area's green spaces, thriving businesses and a growing population.
