About Us

Peabody is one of London’s oldest and largest housing associations, founded in 1862 by the remarkable American banker, diplomat and philanthropist George Peabody. The mission is to make London a city of opportunity for all by ensuring as many people as possible have a good home, a real sense of purpose, and a strong feeling of belonging.

To achieve this we are working towards four key aims which are:

  • to provide excellent customer service
  • to create thriving communities
  • to provide desirable homes
  • to be a first class organisation

The Peabody Group owns or manages over 20,000 properties across 27 London boroughs, housing nearly 50,000 people. Services include a wide range of homes for those who need the support of social, supported of sheltered housing, as well as those who wish to rent or buy. Through great customer service, desirable homes and innovative local programmes, Peabody is proud to play a leadership role in transforming London’s communities.

Building for the future

We are committed to building and developing good quality, affordable homes that foster economic and social regeneration, and engaging with our residents and the community to provide support services that reflect their needs.

Environmental and social sustainability is fundamental to our vision to make London a city of opportunity for all. We only build homes that have a long-term future. We build with durability in mind. This sustainability reduces damage to the environment and also brings social benefits to the new communities our homes create.

As well as providing much needed social and affordable housing, we work with a range of public and charitable organisations to deliver a range of community projects: from helping older people to live independently, to providing accredited IT and basic skills courses to disadvantaged groups and individuals to help gain employment.

Working for Peabody

Our staff are the key to our long-term success and we aim to attract and retain the best people and to be recognised as an employer of choice. Our Investors in People accreditation is the benchmark of our commitment to good employee communications and conditions.

We believe the more our staff reflect the communities on our estates, the better we will be at delivering the services our residents really need. Peabody is committed to a policy of equal opportunities and valuing diversity. Cultural diversity among Peabody staff is significantly higher than average and we are taking steps to improve it in senior management positions.

Our aim is fairness and consistency in recruitment and selection, whilst fully meeting strategic and operational objectives.

The intense competition for staff means that we need to offer an attractive employment package, and we have an excellent range of employee benefits - financial and social, to help maintain a work-life balance.
