The Information Directorate comprises three departments, these being
Information Systems. This department is responsible for the business systems and databases that support the force. These systems include Command and Control, Crime reporting, major crime investigation and organisational systems such as Finance and HR.
Technical Infrastructure. This department has responsibility for the hardware and network infrastructure. This includes servers, desktops, an extensive IP and voice network, the Airwave radio system and the mobile data terminals.
Data Services. This department is responsible for Data protection, Information Security, Freedom of Information and much of the legal compliance issues relating to the police use of information.
The force is widely recognised for its adoption of innovative technology and systems for use by front line officers, analytical staff and support staff. Recent national and force initiatives including the Policing Pledge and “Policing for You” have been supported by the introduction of mobile data systems, a new customer services desk, a single non-emergency number and GPS based tracking of individual officers.
The Information Systems department is a newly formed department that will take the lead in the introduction of these and other exciting new initiatives across the force.
