Thank you for making time to look into this very interesting and challenging post of Director of Estates and Facilities.  There are two dimensions to this role, which will provide:

  • Technical and professional advisory support to the board of NHS Wiltshire on all matters relating to estates and facilities management as a commissioner of health services across Wiltshire
  • Corporate leadership in the role of one of the Directors of Wiltshire Community Health Services (WCHS), the provider services arm of NHS Wiltshire

You will be joining WCHS, the independent provider service arm of NHS Wiltshire at a crucial time in its development.  We have embarked upon a journey that will see significant improvements to the infrastructure of the estates and facilities operations, these will impact dramatically upon the way our local population accesses and receives community based care.  Our business plan (click for link) will transform both the way we deliver community health services along with the estates and facilities infrastructure.  The clear objective is to provide our clinicians and allied health professionals with the very best setting from which they can deliver the right high quality clinical care, at the right time, every time.  This means you will work closely with our staff, partner organisations and the communities we serve, to maximise patient access.

As a commissioner, NHS Wiltshire spends around £610million per annum on healthcare provision for a population of around 440,000 local residents.  As a provider of community health services, WCHS;

  • Employs approximately 2500 staff
  • Generates revenue of £82million in the current financial year
  • Provides a comprehensive range of hard and soft FM services internally and on behalf of five client organisations  

Dennis Bridges the current post holder will retire in June of this year.  Dennis has built a high performing team, which you can develop further to ensure the increased future demands on our services are met.  Your team comprises 260 staff (164 whole time equivalent), which includes 5 direct reports, a detailed organisation chart is available in the accompanying literature.

The main challenges to this role will include:

  • Estate rationalisation – defining the future make up of our estate
  • Enhancing service developments and relationships with organisations we supply to ensure there is a clear focus on meeting customer requirements, value for money and care quality
  • Delivery of primary care centre models across Wiltshire, working with GP partners

Alongside your professional responsibilities, I am also looking to appoint an individual capable of operating as a corporate director within WCHS, since you will be an integral part of our senior leadership team.  You will therefore need to offer:

  • A sound professional background and track record in estates and facilities management
  • Outstanding personal attributes – commercial acumen, shrewd and incisive decision making skills, highly credible communication skills, natural influencing and leadership skills, clear grasp of the strategic context of our work, passion and drive
  • The ability to provide confident and robust challenge to our management team and decision making processes
