Band 8d £63,833 - £79,031pa
Every Year NHS Blood and Transplant saves around 3500 lives through organ donation. However people still die every day because they don't get the life saving transplant they need. NHSBT's Organ Donation Directorate last year launched an ambitious strategy to increase donation by 73% through raising awareness in the public and through developing clinical networks across the NHS.
A year on, the directorate now seeks an ambitious, highly motivated assistant director of Organ Donation. This high profile role is critical to the transformation of the Organ Donation business and the success of its strategic plan.
Reporting to the director, you will be responsible for leading the new national donor team of specialist nurses and co-ordinators, based across the UK. You will also ensure the appointment of 200 clinical leads in hospitals and the development of donor committees in each trust. Key to this is ensuring that the donor leads and committees have the relevant skills, information and support to be able to increase donation. This is a national role and can be based in a number of locations across the UK, you must however be able to travel regularly to the head office in Watford. The role will involve significant travel across the UK.
An experienced manager in a clinical environment you will have a track record leading large teams. You will also be able to demonstrate a background in management of major change projects involving clinical staff. A clinical qualification, direct experience in emergency or intensive care would be desirable. Credible at director level you will be able to build networks with clinicians nationally.
You will be expected to be ambitious, innovative and able to challenge the status quo. You will need to quickly establish your position and lead by example to secure every organ, every time. There are unique challenges created by working in and being responsible for a geographically dispersed team. However, the rewards for leading a high profile UK service are significant.
