Welcome

Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in working for NHS Bedfordshire.

As the local leader of the NHS, we will be spending more than £3 billion over the next five years to improve health and deliver world class health services for the 420,000 people who live and work in Bedfordshire.

It is an exciting time to be joining an ambitious trust that has set itself on a clear journey to becoming a world class healthcare organisation by 2011. Having turned around a £20m inherited deficit in 2008, we again met all of our financial duties in 2009 and moved our rating from 'weak' to 'fair'. We now need to up our game to 'good' and then 'excellent' over this year and next – the people of Bedfordshire should expect nothing less.

That is why we have restructured our directorates and want the most talented, forward thinking and committed people to join our top team.

Our overarching goals are to improve health and well being; reduce unfairness and inequalities in health; give people a better healthcare experience; and give people more choice and better access to high quality, safe, clinically and cost effective local health services.

To achieve this, our focus going forward is to become a solely commissioning organisation by October 2010, when all of Bedfordshire Community Healthcare Services, our provider arm, will have transferred to new providers through a process of managed contestability. It is a pioneering programme that signifies our commitment to putting patients at the forefront of our thinking and our intention to be in the vanguard of transforming services rather than following others.

The success of our five year strategic plan, A Healthier Bedfordshire, will be determined by the extent to which people are supported to be healthier; to have more and better healthcare services out of hospital and closer to home; and to be offered more choice and convenience when they need healthcare.

It will be a challenging journey, but also an exciting and rewarding one.

If this is the kind of challenge that inspires you and you have the ability and drive to make an outstanding contribution, I look forward to receiving your application.

Yours sincerely
