Introduction

Situated in the North West of England, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast is one of the most picturesque areas in the country. Blackpool is one of the UK’s most famous holiday destinations but it is the surrounding area that makes it a beautiful place to live. The cosmopolitan cities of Manchester and Liverpool are nearby and the Lake District, with its breathtaking scenery and wide array of outdoor pursuits is on the doorstep. The area is predominantly countryside dotted with picturesque villages and bustling market towns, such as:
Wrea Green:
Arguably the prettiest village in Fylde. It regularly wins the “Best Kept Village” competition. It is a “much sought after location” as the estate agents say. The focus of the village is The Green which provides a home for the pond, and for cricket matches in summer. Here you can sit in the local pub enjoying a pint of beer and keep an eye on the game at the same time. Picturesque, tranquil and idyllic, what more could you ask?

Hambleton: Just across the first land bridge over the River Wyre and, as a result, it is one of the larger villages in Over Wyre. It used to be famous for having a toll bridge but a free municipal bridge has now replaced this. It is now famous for a good restaurant called Rycroft Hall. It is also famous because it gives access through a side road to Wardleys Creek, and a pub (The Wardleys) that most people except locals don’t know about.

Surrounding Area

The Lake District

The Lake District combines so much that is magnificent in mountain, lake, and dales that new and entrancing vistas open out at each corner of the road. Higher mountains there most certainly are in Britain, but none that are finer in outline or that give a greater impression of majesty; deeper and bluer lakes can be found, but none that fit so readily into the surrounding scene.

Manchester

As the regional capital of the north west of England, Manchester is home to nearly half a million people. It is mainly known as an industrial city but is undergoing a great process of change that is making it one of the most lively and energetic cities in the UK. In the city can be found a whole host of magnificent museums and galleries including the Museum of Science and Industry and the Manchester Art Gallery that was recently reopened after a £35 million redevelopment that took 4 years to complete. The nightlife is second to none and the numerous pubs and clubs provide up and coming musicians the chance to emulate some of the world famous bands that have originated from Manchester.

Liverpool

Described as cosmopolitan and bohemian, Liverpool above all else has truly become a modern European City drowning in culture and entertainment, a cultural hub for local, national and international people. Now twinned with New York and Dublin, Liverpool has more to offer than ever. The city has also recently been crowned European Capital of Culture 2008.
