The Future
Our Mission
To be the UK’s leading university for world-class professionals.
Following the strategic direction of the Vice-Chancellor, the University is engaging in a major agenda for change and development. The change agenda is ambitious and wide-ranging. Developments span academic, support, staffing and physical infrastructure projects.
An important factor for MMU and its faculties is to understand specific markets and to be sufficiently flexible and responsive to adapt to changing market needs against a background of:
- increased competition within an expanded and diversified HE sector
- increased research funding selectivity
- the need to diversify income and move away from an over-dependence on HEFCE funding
- the need to encourage and develop third stream engagement
- greater recognition of the student as a ‘customer’
- more emphasis on employability
- a need for flexibility – of learning spaces, support services, access to learning and to an enabling regulatory/progression framework
- recognition of the importance of research and academic enterprise to inform learning
- development of a university of and for the region
- sustainability - academic; financial; and environmental
- the development of citizens who reflect the institution’s values
In addition, the improvement of many aspects of operational efficiency to allow for the long-term consequences of the national pay settlement and the framework agreement.
The Change Agenda
Following wide discussion a number of priorities have been identified. They are the need to:
- move from central control to greater devolution
