Department of Anesthesia

Mid Yorkshire has one of the largest department’s of anaesthesia in the Yorkshire and the Humber region with more than 80 members of staff, working across our sites at Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract. The department has a friendly and engaging working environment and actively supports staff development opportunities including the training of junior anaesthetists.

The department provides anaesthesia services to a wide range of both general and specialist departments. These include two busy intensive care units, an innovative and highly respected pain management service and obstetric anaesthesia services. The department also supports the regional burns and regional spinal injuries units that are based at Pinderfields General Hospital.

Staff in the department include trainees, specialty doctors, associate specialists and consultants and a new and dynamic management and clerical support structure.

The service is keen that all its staff are fully engaged with developing and improving services and has a diverse range of clinical lead roles. The department of anaesthesia aspires to be the best in the region and first choice for staff.

Department of obstetrics and gynaecology

The obstetrics and gynaecology department is part of the women’s services directorate and work across our sites at Wakefield, Pontefract, Dewsbury and Clayton. 

The department provides women’s health and maternity services to local patients and has a staff base of trainees, specialty doctors and consultants and a new and dynamic management and clerical support structure.

The department is keen to have a diverse range of clinical lead roles and ensure all staff are fully engaged with developing and improving services.

The women’s services directorate also has consultants with sub specialty interests in urogynaecology, oncology, IVF and colposcopy. 

This is an exciting, diverse and busy department that provides excellent opportunities for learning and development.

Emergency department (A&E)

Mid Yorkshire has three emergency departments with more than 200 members of staff based across our sites at Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract. This busy and fast-paced service has around 190,000 patient attendances per year.

The departments provide treatment and management of medical, surgical and trauma emergencies and a wide range of acute minor injuries and illness complaints.  

The departments have a diverse range of nursing and medical and administrative and clerical staff.
