About the Council

Hampshire County Council as an Employer

Hampshire County Council is a major provider of services and a major employer in the South of England. It makes a significant contribution to the life and work of the people of Hampshire delivering a wide and diverse range of services including social services (care of older people, children and special care), education services (nursery provision through to secondary and sixth form), environmental services (planning, infrastructure and waste management) and educational and recreational services.

With around 30,000 people employed in so many different areas it is not surprising that there are a vast range of career opportunities within the County Council. As an “Investor in People” there are many benefits in working for Hampshire County Council, including being part of an organisation with a strong commitment to equality of opportunity, good working conditions, and the satisfaction of contributing to the life and work of the community as a whole.

Throughout the County Council there are a variety of schemes and programmes to assist employees in meeting work and domestic commitments. These include flexible working practices, assistance in finding good quality childcare and a confidential employee helpline. Employees are encouraged to gain qualifications and career and personal development are an important part of the approach to training.
