Terms and Conditions

 

The terms and conditions of service will be in accordance with the Joint National Committee for Chief Officers of Local Authorities.

There are also local conditions, which may be applied by the council from time to time.

Probation

New entrants to local government service will be subject to a six month probationary period.

Salary

The salary scales for each position are:

Head of HR - £66,795 - £69,269 - £71,743 - £74,220

Corporate Reward Manager - £66,106 - £67,279 - £68,479 - £69,706 - £70,957

The quoted salary for the Corporate Reward Manager post incorporates a £10,000 market premium supplement, which will be reviewed annually.

Both salaries are effective from 1st April 2006.

Progression through the scales is conditional on meeting the key objectives set out in the personal development and performance appraisal scheme.

The salary ranges are all inclusive.

Hours of work

The post holder will be employed on a full-time basis (36 hours per week) but will be required to work such hours as necessary to undertake the duties and responsibilities of the post. This will include evening and weekend work.

Superannuation

Membership of the Local Government Superannuation Scheme is optional.

Relocation Package

The council offers a relocation package to newly appointed staff on the basis that the employee purchases a house either in Havering or within an acceptable travelling distance, in order to carry out the duties of the post. Full details of the scheme can be provided to shortlisted applicants.

Annual Leave

Annual leave is based on continuous local government service.

0-5 years over 5 years over 20 years

30 days 33 days 36 days

In addition to these provisions two days extra statutory leave are also granted.

Medical Examination

All appointments are subject to a satisfactory medical report. In this respect you will (if offered an appointment) be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.

Location

The posts are based at one of the council’s main locations, but post holders may be required to work at any other council establishment.

Canvassing

A candidate for appointment must disclose any relationship to a Member of the council or to a member of staff. Canvassing either directly or indirectly will disqualify candidates.

Smoking Policy

The council has a no smoking policy.

Applicants should note that in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, the post is politically restricted.
