Our Strengths
Our motto “Learning to Succeed” is the cornerstone to our achievements. At Guthlaxton we believe that there are no limits to achievement and that with the right challenge and support all of our students have the capacity to realise their fullest potential.
We are a DfE Specialist Performing Arts College and have maintained this status since 1999 demonstrating our strength and strong traditions in these areas. In 2008 we became a Creative Partnership Change School, which reflects our desire for ongoing progress.
The breadth of our curriculum has been developed to meet the needs of different learners, acknowledging the individual and varied strengths of our students. We provide the opportunity to work and teach as part of the Learning South Leicestershire consortium as we join other local schools to deliver the new 14 to 19 Diplomas in Construction, Engineering and ICT.
As a Performing Arts College we offer extensive opportunities for extra curricular activity in the Performing Arts and Sports. We have a fantastic reputation in Sport that was acknowledged in 2007 by the Football Foundation who made a significant grant towards enhancing our Community Sports facilities.
Our most recent OFSTED (December 2009) was successful stating, “Good teaching and individual guidance ensure that students of all abilities make good progress.” They continue to state that, “students say they enjoy learning and the challenge of more difficult tasks.”
Guthlaxton College is a successful school and has an excellent reputation that is reflected in the wide range of accredited Kitemark awards gained by the College. These include Artsmark Gold, Careersmark FMSIS, Healthy Schools, lIP and Sportsmark.
Guthlaxton College has strong values. These are:
- Everyone Belongs
- Everyone shows Respect
- Everyone Achieves
- Everyone is Valued
- Everyone Learns
Our students and our staff are encouraged to achieve their full potential and succeed.
Student Participation
The strong House tradition of the College was further enhanced in June 2009 by the creation of a fourth House and the reorganisation of the pastoral structure into vertical tutor groups. This embeds the numerous opportunities students have to develop their potential and discover hidden talents.
The range of extended service opportunities is huge and includes rugby, hockey, lacrosse, Concert Band, Salsa dance, Drama Club, Computer Club, Art Club, Chess, Gutho’s Got Talent and so on.
