About Education Leeds

Come and work for a brilliant company! Education Leeds is a company owned by Leeds City Council and is responsible for running all education services in Leeds, including advising the local authority on issues that inform education policy. We are one of the first organisations in the country to be awarded the Cabinet Office Customer Service Excellence award, and in 2006 we won the Public Sector Power 100 Team Excellence award.

Education Leeds is leading the way in building a world-class education system, vital in achieving the city’s vision of becoming an internationally competitive European city where everyone can be successful and enjoy a high quality of life.

Our vision for the future of learning in Leeds is for brilliant learning and brilliant learning places, and we are working in partnership with those who share our aspirations for the children of Leeds to achieve these ambitious goals.

We want all children and young people to enjoy brilliant learning that gives them the confidence, knowledge, understanding, and skills to thrive and achieve their potential. We also want all Leeds schools to be brilliant learning places – to be improving and inclusive schools; places where every pupil can be happy, healthy, safe, successful, and where no child is left behind.

Since the company was created in 2001, it has transformed outcomes for thousands of children and young people; achieving real progress in attendance, behaviour and standards. We were the first to receive regional re-accreditation for our Inclusion Charter Mark, have gained a Beacon status award for our healthy schools programme and inclusion programme, and were a finalist for this year’s international Carl Bertelsmann prize for our work on inclusion. Despite these achievements, we need to continue to narrow the gap in outcomes between the extremes of high and low achievers.

For schools to be significantly better, they must be significantly different. Part of the answer lies in new institutional models that recognise the nature of learning and the nature of the learner. Education Leeds is recognised as a leading innovator in education, and strives to be the best by deriving inspiration from, and making links with, successful international models in Sweden and Finland. Education Leeds and Bluewave SWIFT were winners at the 2008 BETT awards in the category of supporting institutional leadership and management solutions.

We are transforming learning environments across the city through three big transformational projects, Leeds Inclusive Learning Strategy (LILS), Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and the 14+ Review. These enable flexible and personalised ways of learning and teaching, supported and extended through state-of-the-art technology. There is continued record investment in Leeds schools, transforming the school estate in partnership with the Local Education Partnership and RM, our ICT strategic partner.

Education Leeds has teamed up with The Pacific Institute to brings its life-changing “STEPS” workshop to not only the staff at Education Leeds, but also to members of its community. We hold the Investors in Excellence award and are currently working towards gaining Equality Standard for Local Government Level 4. We are planning to have our work in Lifelong Learning and Investors in Excellence recognised in The Sunday Times 'Best Companies to Work For' award this year.
