Our Vision and Values

Customer Relationships;

One of the clearest areas in which we differ from others is in our attitude to the marketplace and to our customers. We look for customers with whom we can have long-term relationships within a competitive market.

We select organisations that we respect, with whom we are compatible, and for whom we can provide real benefit over time. To maintain the relationship we provide a high quality of service for fair recompense. We never take advantage of our customers.

A Devolved Management Structure;

Central to the company's success, is the way in which we allow the individuals who work for us to develop and contribute. We aim to work together as a 'family' and avoid politics and blame. We believe in decisions being made as close as possible to the point of service delivery, which results in a devolved organisation and 'bottom up' style of management. This requires the organisation to give large numbers of people the understanding they need to make decisions in line with the company's objectives and values. As a result we have a real culture deeply embedded throughout the organisation.

Investment and Risk;

We also believe that those who put their trust in our capabilities by investing in us deserve a fair return. But again, we see profit as an outcome rather than as a target. Our approach is to look after our customers and our staff in the knowledge that if we do this well, we will generate the profit for our investors. We optimise this return through the application of sound management practices and taking a prudent position on risk. We provide our investors with good visibility of our company, and seek never to surprise them with our results.

External Review of our Values;

In January 2000, Serco subjected itself to an independent review in order to assess how well its corporate values are applied within the company. A close correlation was found between the personal values of the senior management and Serco's values. As such, it was concluded that in the main Serco lives according to its stated values consistently across the world.

Education Bradford’s Values

Our personal values…

We will treat each other with respect: valuing each other and our different skills and backgrounds, promoting equality and good relationships and challenging discrimination. We aim to make the most of each individual’s strengths, by caring for each other and by taking responsibility – as individuals and as team members. We will celebrate our successes collectively and learn from our mistakes.

Our standards….

We aim to improve continuously; individually and corporately by having high expectations, by being prepared to challenge each other, by being creative and by being willing to take risks.

Our commitment…

We will strive to make a difference, raising expectations and achievements and developing pupils’ and schools’ capacities to succeed. We will do this by agreeing our key priorities and by working together, and with other partners, to fulfil them.

Our communications…

We will keep ourselves well informed about our work and its impact, and will ensure that those we work with and for are well informed about what we are doing. We will do this by listening carefully, and by communicating in a timely, clear and accessible way.

Our skills….

We will ensure that we have the skills necessary to fulfil our roles and that we use them to best effect. We will do this by working to improve our expertise, by taking responsibility for our own professional development and by providing good leadership which encourages and enhances the talents of those we manage.

Education Bradford’s Vision

School improvement

We have a vision for school improvement to provide appropriate, well-focused support and challenge which improves school performance and reinforces schools’ capacities for self-management and self-evaluation. Schools will be making excellent progress and will be committed to continuous improvement.

Cohesion and inclusion

We will help schools to narrow the achievement gap particularly for ethnic minorities, disaffected boys, vulnerable young people and pupils with special educational needs. We will support them in challenging discrimination and promoting race equality. We will promote citizenship education and bring young people from different communities together to learn. We will ensure access for all and will work to create more cohesive and inclusive communities.

Quality support services and Best Practice networks

We will provide high quality support services to schools, pupils and the Council. We will identify best practice in our schools and services. We will develop networks to link schools in Bradford, and make links within Serco at local, national and international level. Through Serco learning, we will provide high quality services to schools, clusters of schools and LEA’s in the North of England.

Community / Partnership

We will establish good partnerships with schools and through them with pupils and parents. We will have a strong and dynamic relationship with the Council and the Education Policy Partnership which adds value to schools and improves the performance of pupils. We will build good links with communities, with business groups and with other local partners.

Our People

Our people will be proud to be part of a successful organisation which is making a difference to the education of children in Bradford. They will be fulfilled by their work. They will continue to develop their skills and, through their expertise, Education Bradford will continue to improve and will gain national recognition.
