Information for Candidates
We simply want the best people working for us. You might be a local government professional seeking to advance your career with a leading London council, or you have been successful in the private sector but never thought of local government before.
Whatever your background, we want you to consider working for Ealing. We guarantee that your application will be considered on its merits and nothing else.
Ealing is an accredited member of the Two-Ticks Disability Symbol. This is recognition that we are meeting commitments relating to the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people. We will meet any special requirements of people with disabilities who are asked to attend for an interview. Just contact the named person on correspondence sent to you so that we can make suitable arrangements.
Ealing offer annual salary increments, to the top of your scale, determined through
assessment of your work performance and any other business considerations.
Salaries are paid into bank or building society accounts on the 26th day of each
month (or the day before if the 26th falls on a weekend or Bank Holiday).
Salaries are reviewed every year taking into account any decisions of the
appropriate national and/or provincial negotiating machinery. A pay award effective 1 April 2008 is yet to be agreed
At this level of appointment you will be required to undertake such reasonable
hours of work as are necessary to fully perform the duties of the post. You can
expect to work out of hours according to business needs.
Key to Ealing’s success is ensuring that our employees are highly motivated and
able to grow and develop professionally. The Council is committed to
encouraging staff to undertake continuous learning and development through
internal and external activities.
You will receive a comprehensive Corporate Induction programme and other
training programmes appropriate to the role will be identified and actioned in
development plans once initial probationary periods are completed.
The Council conducts an annual staff satisfaction survey and each directorate
develops an action plan in response to issues raised.
All new appointments to the Council are subject to a minimum probationary period
of 6 months (regardless of any previous local government service).
The period of notice (on either side) to terminate employment is three months.
Ealing recognises that people work best when they have a satisfactory balance between their paid work and the remainder of their lives. Employees may need to accommodate care responsibilities, pursue further learning activities, or simply wish to have a greater choice about your leisure time. Employees are encouraged to speak with their managers regarding work-life balance aspirations.
A no-smoking policy applies throughout the Council.
The Council’s objective is to ensure that no job applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment, directly or indirectly, on the grounds of sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital status, creed/religion, colour, ethnic or national origin.
