WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP

POWERING THE WORLD OF WORK

About us

The Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) provides independent scrutiny and advice to UK Government and Devolved Administration Ministers on the long-term management of radioactive waste, including storage and disposal. The Committee’s priority task is to provide independent scrutiny on the UK Government’s and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s high profile programme to deliver geological disposal, together with interim storage, for higher activity wastes.

Details of the work in which CoRWM is currently involved, as well as their previous reports and position papers, are available at http://corwm.decc.gov.uk .

CoRWM comprises a Chair and 14 members. The Chair and members reflect different backgrounds and are not mandated representatives of organisations or sectoral interests. As part of a cycle of appointments to the Committee, the positions of Chair and several members become vacant from 1 November 2012. This information pack explains how you can apply for the role of the CoRWM Chair. A separate information pack for applying for the member vacancies is expected to be available in April.

The role of the CoRWM Chair is high profile and he or she will have face-to-face meetings with the Committee’s sponsor Ministers on appointment and then at least annually. In addition, the Chair may be required to appear before Parliamentary or  Assemby committees. The Chair is also the Committee’s main point of contact with stakeholders and will represent the Committee’s views to both broadcasting and written media.

Details of CoRWM’s role and responsibilities and its ways of working are contained within the Committee’s Terms of Reference - click here to read.

Procedural requirements on the Chair and members are also set out in the CoRWM Code of Practice - click here to read and the Seven Principles of Public Life - Click here to read
