ConstructionSkills is the Sector Skills Council for construction. We represent every part of the construction industry, from architects to bricklayers, across the UK, and we cover every part of the skills agenda - from training grants to college places. We understand what the industry wants; we tell that directly to government, and we have the power to get things done.
As a Sector Skills Council, we are responsible for tackling the skills and productivity needs of the construction industry sector UK-wide, and for influencing how training is delivered and funded in the UK .
Our vision is: To be the enterprise that people want to work with and for, in order to create a fully qualified and professional UK construction industry.
This is a huge undertaking. Construction is the UK's biggest employer and biggest exporter
ConstructionSkills employs over 1500 people across the UK and has a turnover in excess of £250 million, with a variety of income streams. Our Head Office is based at Bircham Newton in Norfolk , with a number of other locations across the UK .
The government gives us statutory powers to raise a levy from firms in the industry which is returned in the form of training grants. This system ensures that contributions to the cost of training is shared throughout the industry.
We place around 10,000 apprentices with employers within the industry, and last year the framework achievement rate was over 67%. Our training division, The National Construction College is proud to claim a 100% employment rate for apprentices. In addition our publishing division provides publications, videos and CDs which help to deliver effective training and development across most subjects within the construction industry. We also manage competency card schemes and run health and safety tests.
As our industry grows and develops, so we too must change and innovate in order to meet the demands of the sector. This philosophy and the finance professionals we are looking for will be at the heart of our modernisation programme.
