Cambridge Housing Society has been operating locally since 1927. A charitable Industrial and Provident Society, we employ circa 350 people in a wide variety of roles, managing circa 2500 properties, as well as providing care services and community investment services.
We provide many services to our local community and our employees may be found caring for children in one of our nurseries, supporting people with learning disabilities, helping families with their tenancies, teaching adults to read and write or providing personal care to the elderly in their own homes.
In recent years we have developed a strong reputation, working jointly with the Flagship Housing Group, as a successful developer of affordable housing and housing for sale on a shared ownership or open market basis. On average we develop more than 100 new homes p.a. and have in busy periods completed as many as 315 in one year.
Cambridge Housing Society was careful to avoid some of the excesses in the residential housing market in the last 2 years, allowing our development programme to drop back to just over 50 new homes last year rather than allowing ourselves to follow the market in making over-valued investment decisions. In stark contrast to many of our competitors this has resulted in us not having to make any right downs of values in our accounts, or to declare any losses, or to be at risk of breaching any banking covenants. We remain strong and continuing to develop in what is now an attractive investment market.
