Location - About Leeds

Located in the heart of Yorkshire and with easy access to the M1 and M62, Leeds is the largest city in the North of England.

Outside of London, Leeds is now the biggest financial city in the UK and has over the last few years attracted many large finance, retail and leisure industries to the area.

Vibrant, diverse and full of surprises, Leeds is district rich in history, yet with all the facilities and attractions of a thriving, modern city.

With 19 public sports centres including a Centre for Sport, 16 public swimming pools, museums, 7 major parks, stately homes, 4 municipal golf courses.

The city centre and other districts have a great atmosphere and are swamped by café’s, bars, exclusive restaurants, fantastic shopping including the famous ‘Harvey Nichols’ department store and the very stylish Victorian shopping arcade ‘Victoria Quarter’ which houses many designer stores including Vivienne Westwood, Reiss, Louis Vuitton and too many more to mention.

When night time falls the city comes alive with its many pubs, bars restaurants and nightclubs catering for all tastes. From comedy clubs and bars offering live music to theatres including the Grand Opera House, The West Yorkshire Playhouse and the City Varieties.

For the sports fans, Leeds is home to the famous cricket ground situated just outside the city centre in Headingley alongside the rugby teams of the Leeds Rhinos and the Leeds Tykes. Not forgetting the football fan who will no doubt want to pay a visit to the Elland Road Football Stadium!!

SURROUNDING AREA

There are great links via the public transport networks around the region to many villages and market towns. The spa town of Harrogate is a short drive away where you will find the famed Valley Gardens and Mother Shiptons Cave & Petrifying Well in nearby Knaresborough recognised for England’s most famous Prophetess . She lived 500 years ago during the reign of Henry VIII and Elizabeth 1. As she grew older, her prophetic visions became known and feared throughout England.

Saltaire is a historic model community, built by Sir Titus Salt for the workers of his mill and has now been converted into luxury apartments and also has many shops and restaurants and features a permanent exhibition of the work of the artist David Hockney. The neighbouring city of Bradford features the excellent National Media Museum where its possible to while away entire afternoons browsing their archive of film and television. Further to the north is the walled city of York, with the cobbled streets of The Shambles, a quainter place, very different from the modern bustle of Leeds.

A great place to explore the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and close to the town of Skipton where you will find easy access to the beautiful scenery and walks of the Lake District.
