About the College
Achieving
technology status has enabled The Ash Technology College to
provide high quality technological resources. These are essential
for preparing students for the future in an increasingly complex
technological society and to provide them with a superb educational
experience. We are laying down the foundations for success.
The vast majority of our students stay in education
after sixteen and we have strong positive relationships with
the local post sixteen providers: Spelthorne College, Brooklands
College and Strodes College.
This means that we are confident that our students will be
offered a wide provision of academic and vocational courses.
We assist in preparing students for the transition to college
by providing taster days in year 10. Colleges are represented
at parents evenings and visiting speakers come from the colleges
to talk to year 11 students.
The college is situated in ASHFORD: a parish in the hundred
of Spelthorne, in the county of Middlesex, 2 miles to the
E. of Staines. It is a station on the Richmond and Staines
branch of the South Western railway, and is situated in a
highly cultivated and wooded district. It was formerly a possession
of Westminster Abbey, and afterwards a part of the honour
of Hampton.

Aims of the school…. We provide an
education which values all students and promotes success and
opportunity at all levels of ability. We have a clear focus
on academic achievement and provide a high quality learning
experience appropriate to the needs of each and every child.
- Aspiration, achievement and ambition are nurtured and
encouraged.
- Our commitment is to develop in each person self discipline,
responsibility and respect for others.
Our students are prepared for their future in a fast changing
world. Students leaving The Ash Technology College have the
appropriate qualifications to ensure progression and participation
for the next phase of their learning, are self aware, confident,
and able to express ideas on social and practical issues at
a local, national and international level.
As a specialist technology college we get additional funding
from the government. This helps to fund innovative work in
ICT and develop an educational culture which is scientific
and technological, without detriment to other curriculum areas.
Realising the aims:
The focus of realizing the aims lies in student achievement
and our core purpose has been raising achievement.
We make this a reality by our commitment to:
Provide a curriculum which will:
- Meet individual needs, interests and aspirations
- Be broad, challenging and motivating
- Prepare students for a positive role in the future
- Provide flexibility and choice
- Encourage participation and attainment
- Create progression opportunities for all.
Have a clear focus on learning and teaching:
There is a consistent focus on learning. Every lesson counts
and every activity supports learning. Teaching is well planned,
systematic and incremental with clear learning objectives,
pace and structure. The knowledge that students learn in different
ways is reflected by the use of a variety of teaching styles
and methodologies. At the end of every lesson students have
gains in knowledge, understanding and skills.
Rigorous and frequent monitoring of progress:
A termly assessment cycle is undertaken with progress communicated
to students and parents. Full use is made of value addedness,
academic tutoring and target settings.
A clear and sensible behaviour policy:
The behaviour policy reinforces the need for responsible
behaviour by having a system of rewards and well planned graduated
sanctions.
By adopting a culture of high achievement and expectations:
There is no acceptance of lower expectations based on excuses
for under achievement. We provide inclusion and entitlement
for all.
Partnership with parents:
We expect parents to work with us on matters of attendance,
homework and conduct to ensure that every student gets the
most out of their time at school.
We must ensure that:
- The need for continuous improvement is accepted by students
and staff
- We are conscious of the future, aware of what society
wants and we respond to those changing demands.
