Lancaster
The historic city of Lancaster is located in the North West of England, between England’s famous Lake District National Park and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool.
The city’s history can be traced back thousands of years, and each era has left some striking enhancements, like the imposing, mediaeval Lancaster Castle, the classic Georgian architecture, the grand Victorian cathedral or the wonderful folly of the Edwardian Ashton Memorial.
Due to Lancaster's heritage, there are many places of historic interest including: the award-winning, quayside Maritime Museum; the Music Room; the Judge's Lodgings, home of the famous witch hunter, Thomas Covell and the City Museum which houses the King's Own Regimental Collection.
Overlooking the city is the huge Williamson Park, home to the Ashton Memorial, a tropical Butterfly House and several outdoor theatre-in-the-park productions. Other highlights include the Victorian neo-gothic St. Peter's Cathedral and the ancient Priory Church of St Mary the Virgin.
Lancaster is a fantastic place for cycling and is proud of its extensive cycling network. The city is one of just six places in the country to be named a 'cycling demonstration' town; encouraging more of us to get out on our bikes and enjoy all the benefits cycling brings.
